The pub that’s a cultural hub! We love that line. Rachel Mayfield, from the Anchor Gallery, used it to describe the Gunmakers Arms. We’d like to agree with that sentiment as we try to host a range of cultural events there.
“What’s ‘Show Me Your Birmingham’ and what’s the ‘Anchor Gallery’?” we hear you cry. Well the Anchor Gallery is an alternative arts platform representing independent creatives with a connection to Birmingham and the Midlands. Local artist Rachel Mayfield created the Anchor Gallery and also the associated arts installation ‘Show Me Your Birmingham’.
We are pleased to announce that The Anchor Gallery will be returning this year and holding a one week mixed media exhibition at The Gunmakers Arms during October 2017. This years event will focus on photography & short film – containing music and/or poetry and portraiture in all formats. It will also include artists talks and presentations. To give you a flavour of what to expect you can read more about the 2016 event in James Kennedy’s blog. The exhibition is a repeat of a yearly event by the gallery titled ‘Show Me Your Birmingham’. This aim of this event is to create a platform for Independent and Unique Artists from the city of Birmingham and the Midlands and to keep the community of arts alive.
Open submission to exhibit close on August 31st. If you’re interested please submit work or an idea for a talk or presentation to firstname.lastname@example.org. Exhibition space is free and the Gallery take no commission from any sale of your work. They are a member funded, not for profit, organisation and the only cost to you would be a £10 membership fee. This fee helps to cover their costs for promotion, hanging costs and printed materials. Membership also includes a pass for you for unlimited access to all events during the exhibition.
It’s going to be a great week of culture at the GA
