We’re happy to say that that the Gunmakers Arms is a CAMRA accredited locale pub. What does that mean we hear you cry? Well it doesn’t mean Edward and Tubbs are taking over, so don’t worry! Simply put LocAle is all about promoting pubs that sell locally-brewed real ale. Win win! You can often tell if a pub is LocAle as they may use the official CAMRA LocAle signage.
LocAle is a CAMRA initiative promoting pubs stocking locally brewed real ale. This reduces the number of ‘beer miles’ and supports local breweries. The scheme builds on a growing consumer demand for quality local produce and an increased awareness of ‘green’ issues. Well our real ale is very local. In fact you can see where it’s brewed if you take about twenty steps from the GA bar into the courtyard!
The CAMRA LocAle scheme was created in 2007 by CAMRA’s Nottingham branch which wanted to help support the tradition of brewing within Nottinghamshire, following the demise of local brewer Hardys and Hansons. There are currently 125 CAMRA branches participating in the LocAle scheme which have accredited hundreds of pubs as LocAle pubs which regularly sell at least one locally-brewed real ale.
And just because the GA is a LocAle pub doesn’t mean you’ll hear ‘This is a local pub for local people, there’s nothing for you here.’ In fact our staff and the locals are a very friendly lot. So please come and check us out.
